Meet the Pastor
Jeremy Spencer
Pastor Jeremy L. Spencer was born in Rhode Island, but grew up in Iowa and Nebraska. He graduated from William Jewell College in 1980 with a bachelor's degree in "Language and Theology." He then attended and graduated from Central Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City, KS, majoring in Biblical Interpretation and receiving the M.Div. degree in 1983. Pastor Spencer has done further graduate study at the University of Iowa. In 2019 he received the Doctor of Ministry degree from Northeastern Seminary, which is on the campus of Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester, NY. His dissertation was on the reorganization of the American Baptist Churches in the U.S.A. in the 1960s and the 1970s. He has been a full-time minister since 1987, serving churches in Nebraska, Iowa, and New York State. He was ordained in 1988. From 1992 to 1994 he served as a Chaplain in the U.S. Navy, ministering to sailors on USS VICKSBURG (CG 69).
Jeremy came to the Odessa Baptist Church in 2001, and has since been active member in the Odessa community. He and his wife Susan are parents to Dan, adopted from Vietnam, and John, adopted from China.
